STEP UP FOR WATER
We are in the final week of #RunningDry! I can hardly believe it. Together, this amazing #RunningDry community logged over 201 marathons for our 100 marathons in 1 day challenge. 201! That’s a staggering 8495,3km from 44 countries and territories around the world. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Step up for water
And now: one final request. Let’s step up for water. On Monday 11th February, this part of the #RunningDry campaign comes to an end. Before that happens, let’s each share a water tip and use the power of social media to spread those tips as far and wide as possible.
Any time before Day 100 on Monday, go for a run or walk with your friends and family and step up for water. Choose a water saving tip and post it on social media with #RunningDry. And post a video so we can show the world how amazing the #RunningDry community is!
Water tips
Here are 15 of our favourite water tips and some helpful infographics: feel free to use one of these or add your own:
Turn off the faucet when you’re brushing your teeth.
Limit your shower to under 5 minutes.
Switch to a low-flow showerhead: it can cut your monthly water bill in half!
Shower with a bucket and use the water to flush your toilet.
If it’s yellow, let it mellow!
Fix a dripping tap (it can be as simple as changing a washer)
Only run your dishwasher / washing machine when it’s full.
Only wash your clothes when they are really dirty.
Switch to waterless cleaning products.
Recycle your clothing: donate, resell or upcycle it to save the invisible water that went into its production.
Buy less clothing, repair more: each item of clothing and pair of shoes you own has an invisible water footprint.
Defrost food overnight in the fridge (don’t defrost it in water).
Carry a reusable water bottle: plastic water bottles take twice as much water to produce as they can actually hold.
Adopt meat-free Monday: 1 meat-free meal for 1 person saves as much water as 8 days of personal use!
Drink one less coffee a day: one cup of coffee uses 208 litres of water.
Remember: post your water tip on social media with #RunningDry. Better yet, make a video telling us your water tip!
