Mina’s first marathon in Türkiye was in Pamukkale, followed by marathons in Denizli, Antalya and Konya, where the team investigated the region’s sinkhole issues. Mina ran at Lake Tuz, one of the world’s largest hypersaline lakes, before finishing the leg in Istanbul for several partner, diplomatic and media engagements.
We had the great honour of visiting the Büyük Menderes River Basin where we witnessed the power of collective action on water.
Farmers, local government and textile manufacturers are working together to protect the Büyük Menderes River from pollution and overuse by implementing water-conscious practices like regenerative agriculture, which saves water, increases production and decreases waste.

Lake Tuz used to be a beautiful lake filled with animals, birds and wildlife but a year ago, due to a combination of climate change and the diversion of the inbound water, the lake has completely dried up.
